EPDM vs Silicone — An Honest Comparison
EPDM Rubber
The original material and the safe, correct choice for a factory-appearance restoration. Genuinely decent heat resistance, and widely available in GM-correct profiles.
Silicone Rubber
Rated flexible across a meaningfully wider range than standard EPDM, commonly cited from well below freezing up to around 176°F. Worth considering specifically because of how far UAE ambient and in-cabin temperatures push standard rubber. Be clear-eyed about what you're buying, though: genuine molded silicone in this vehicle's exact door profile doesn't really exist as a product. What's sold as automotive silicone weatherstrip is universal strip stock, good material, longer service life, but not a precise reproduction of the factory cross-section the way the EPDM option is. The trade-off is heat performance against exactness of fit, not just appearance.
Neither is wrong. If this truck is a driver first and a restoration second, silicone's temperature range is worth trading away some profile precision for. If factory correctness and an exact fit matter more, EPDM is the right call and still a genuine improvement over thirty-year-old original rubber.

The Process
